Chandigarh, March 28, 2016: A delegation of jewelers from Punjab lead by Darshan Singh Khurmi, Ravi Kamal Goyal, Gulshan Rinku, Vishal Kumar Jain, Sanjeev Jain and Sunil Khipla today met Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal to put up their case to roll back the excise duty levied on jewelers by Narinder Modi lead the centre government. AAP leaders, Durgesh Pathak, Aman Arora and Jassi Sekhon accompanied the delegation.
Criticizing the move of the central government, Kejriwal said that Delhi government is against levying excise tax on the jewelers. He said that the excise duty will serve no benefit to the government and because of corruption the money will go in the vain. It will also put more burden on the jewelers who are already struggling because of worldwide economy slowdown.
Arvind Kejriwal wrote a letter to the Prime Minister, Narinder Modi reminding him that it is shocking to know that the same person who was chief minister of Gujrat in year 2012 and opposed the decision of UPA government of levying Excise duty is now implementing the same decision.
Kejriwal also wrote a letter to the chief ministers of all states of india to oppose the decision and stand with the jewelers. He also wrote a letter to Chief Minister Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal to go up against the decision of the central government.
On Tuesday, a resolution regarding opposing the excise tax on the jewelers’ will also passed by the Delhi Assembly. Kejriwal has got appointments of the President of India, Prime Minister of india and Finance Minister of india to meet them and put up the issue.
Kejriwal also criticized the police action on jewelers on Saturday at Ludhiana where Punjab Police lathicharged the peacefully protesters
