* Union health minister to lay foundation stones of Cancer hospitals
at Fazilka & Hoshiarpur soon
Chandigarh, Union Health Minister Mr. J.P. Nadda will soon lay the foundation stones for two tertiary Cancer hospitals at Fazilka and Hoshiarpur with a view to give fillip to ongoing war on cancer launched by Punjab Government.
This decision was taken by Union Health Minister Mr. Nadda while meeting Punjab Health Minister Mr. Surjit Kumar Jyani during former’s short visit to the city. Union Minister issued instructions to his staff to expedite the proceedings in this regard so that the physical work on these projects could be got commenced soon besides asking Mr. Jyani to work out the plan for laying the foundations at the earliest.
Mr. Jayani accompanied by Secretary Health Mrs. Vinni Mahajan apprised Mr. Nadda of measures being taken by state to make Rural and Urban Health Missions a big success besides covering entire population under quality health care. He informed the Minister that Punjab was being providing free treatment to Cancer patients in government as well as empanelled hospitals from Chief Minister’s cancer relief fund. Mr. Jyani said that there was an estimated census of more than 34000 deaths due to cancer in last few years while more than 20,000 persons were still under this distress. He said besides subsidized treatment the state was leaving no stone unturned to eliminate this menace. Mr. Jyani said cancer care units being setup at Fazilka and Hoshiarpur would prove a big relief to the patients afflicting cancer since the number of patients in Malwa belt was so high.
After discussions over the issue, Mr. Nadda appreciated the strict compliance of PNDT Act in Punjab and said center would extend fullest cooperation and assistance to strengthen the resolve of the state in checking female foeticide. Mr. Nadda assured the health related issues of state pending with union government would also be sorted out on priority.
While expressing gratitude to Union Health Minister for his gesture to establish Cancer hospitals at Fazilka and Hoshiarpur, Mr. Jayani said Punjab was emerging as the state with most advanced cancer cure facilities, and these upcoming hospitals, would help the state in its ongoing crusade against cancer.
Mrs. Vinni Mahajan informed the Minister that Punjab has improved a lot in Infant and Maternal mortality rate by increasing institutional deliveries through mass awareness campaigns.
