* Remaining Ludhiana districts to be covered in next 5 days
Chandigarh, The Punjab is on a brink of achieving a distinction of 100% coverage of families of state with a bank account under Jan Dhan Yojna as by 10th of this month all districts including Ludhiana would be fully covered under the scheme. The State has achieved a mile stone of opening up of 25 lac bank accounts under ‘Jan Dhan’ scheme.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of Finance Department said that this flagship scheme was launched under the instructions from Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal. He said that the Punjab Government has mobilised all its resources to sensitize the public to open bank accounts. He said that up to 2 December, 2014, 23,412 camps have been organised across the state and 25,36,437 accounts have already been opened. The spokesperson said that survey of households in all the 22 districts has been completed and 21 districts except Ludhiana have been declared saturated, as account of all uncovered households have been opened. “The opening of accounts in Ludhiana district will be completed by the 10th December 2014” he said.
He further said that one of the important pillar of the scheme was to conduct survey of all the households of the state which banks and administration has done in close coordination to find out households not having bank accounts.
The spokesperson said that The ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna’ was launched in the Punjab on 28th August, 2014. As directed by CM Punjab, Principal Secretary Finance held 8 Video Conferences with Deputy Commissioners and Lead District Managers to review the progress of the scheme.
