JAKHAR SLAMS MODI GOVT FOR MURDERING DEMOCRACY BY DISRUPTING ENTIRE SESSION OF PARLIAMENT

Chandigarh, April 6

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President and Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur Mr. Sunil Jakhar today said that the NDA government has murdered democracy by stalling Parliament’s proceedings throughout the second half of current Budget session.

Expressing resentment against the protest done by the BJP outside the Parliament House, along with Mrs. Ambika Soni, Mr. Santokh Chaudhary, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Mr. Ravneet Singh Bittu and others, Mr. Jakhar said that this is the moral defeat of NDA government that MPs of ruling party are demonstrating outside the parliament. Declaring this a win of opposition Mr. Jakhar said that smooth functioning of parliament is the responsibility of the Central Government but this government has failed completely in its responsibility and this has exposed the anti-democratic face of the Modi government. He said that the Union government should have contacted all the parties to proceed the business of the House smoothly and efforts should be made to remove the impediments, but this government deliberately did not let the House run with its allies, so that the opposition can not fix central government’s accountability by highlighting its failures on the floor of house.

On this occasion, MPs of some other states, including Congress MPs of Punjab, also protested outside Parliament House on the issue of farmers’ demands. Mr. Jakhar stated that the Congress government of Punjab has taken the initiative to waive off the debts of the farmers. He demanded that Union Government should also come forward on similar patter to waive off the farmer loan across the country, as the economic condition of farmers is very miserable in all the states.

While recalling the tenure of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Mr. Jakhar said that his UPA government had earlier waive off the farmer loan of entire country, but the Modi government is doing nothing for the welfare of the farmers. Mr. Jakhar said that 36,000 farmers have committed suicides because of the wrong policies of the Modi government but the NDA government is not paying any attention to the issues of peasantry of the country. Mr. Jakhar said that the people of the country are eagerly waiting for 2019 and in the next general elections people will through out the Modi government from center.
