Jagmeet Brar quits Congress, keeps his options open

Chandigarh,  Senior Congress leader and former Congress Working Committee Member who has been under suspension for the last about five months today quit the party while keeping his options open to join the Bharatiya Janata Party against which he did not utter a single while he  directed his salvos towards the Congress and the Akali Dal.

He had been suspended following his outbursts in the wake of the total rout of the party in the Lok Sabha elections. However, he had taken the stand that he had been misunderstood. However, his explanation failed to carry weight with party chief Sonia Gandhi. It may be mentioned that Brar was in the race when Partap Singh Bajwa was entrusted with the responsibility of the state presidency. He had been sulking since then.

For Brar, the BJP now is not communal. “How can a party be dubbed as communal which has been given such a mandate by the people”, was his logic. At the same time, he was all praise for the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said except the BJP, all other parties had become victim of the dynastic politics.

He admitted he had been in touch with people from both the main political parties who have been fed up with both dynasty and royalty. He would assess the situation during the next few weeks and the next step would be taken only in consultation with those with whom he had been in communication all these days.

“The political sincerity in my old party is understood not in terms of the sincere political actions, political service to the nation, to the welfare of the people, but rather the political sincerity is measured by the amount of sycophancy, to which my ethical, moral and political will could not be ready all these years. In the meantime, this great party that had once brought independence to our great nation has been reduced to a self-serving family undertaking, which shares the party functioning, at the maximum, with a small number of oligarchs, which envelop and insulate it from a common dialogue ultra-necessary for the democratic functioning of any political party”, said in a statement.

Brar made a sensational disclosure that the drug lords had funded the campaign of a senior leader in the last Assembly election as the perception was about the Congress coming to power.he added

For the several weeks, speculations have been on about his resignation and joining the BJP.

That the BJP is looking for a Sikh face is an open secret. In case Brar joins the saffron brigade, it would be yet another indication of BJP breaking its relations with the Akali Dal. He has been fighting against the Badal ever since he joined the Congress from the All India Sikh Students Federation. Both the families belong to Muktsar district.
