Chandigarh, November 7 – The Istri Akali Dal today announced a ‘sehaj path’ programme termed “550 saal sehaj path de naal” to mark the forthcoming 550 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji in 2020 during the course of which the Istri dal will conduct State wide recitation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee to propagate the message of the first Guru.
Disclosing this here today after a meeting of the woman wing at the party headquarters here, Istri Akali Dal president Bibi Jagir Kaur said initially 550 sehaj paath will be started at different parts in Punjab by women leaders. She said these will culminate in a joint bhog on December 25, 2017 at Fatehgarh Sahib on occasion of martyrdom day of Mata Gujri and Chotta Sahibazadas. She said gurmat samagams would also be organized in each district to reach out to the sangat and reaffirm our commitment to the ideals of Guru Nanak Dev ji”, she added.
Stating that the Istri Akali Dal was also associating dharma parcharaks with this religious activity, Bibi Jagir Kaur said a special effort would be made to spread awareness about the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji amongst the youth. She asked the district presidents to hold awareness meetings for women members also to motivate women to give dharmik sanskar to their children. “We will also distribute ‘sainchee sahib’ to all desirous of the same through the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC)”, she added.
The meeting, which was attended by 250 members including district presidents and senior leaders including former minister Satwant Kaur Sandhu and former mla Harpreet Kaur Mukhmailpur, also took note of the atmosphere of repression let loose in the State which started with the killing of senior Akali leader Gurbachan Singh Khalsa in Gurdaspur and is continuing relentlessly with even scions of Akali leaders being targeted in a planned manner. The Istri wing leaders also briefed her that sarpanches and panches as well as councilors were threatened during the Gurdaspur by poll and that due to this a large number of women also kept away from voting booths fearing violence. She said it was unfortunate that an elected government had lost faith in its people so soon after winning a State and said the people would themselves take the Congress government to task for these misdeeds.
Istri Akali Dal district presidents also brought to focus the recent international drug racket in which AAP leader and leader of opposition Sukhpal Khaira has been made a prime accused by a Fazilka court. The leaders said AAP had fought the last elections on the issue of drugs and even defamed Punjabis by claiming the youth were ‘nashedi’. They said now that Sukhpal Khaira had been named as king pin of an international drug racket with Pakistani connections, the AAP leadership should take immediate action against him and expel him from its primary membership. They however noted that instead of doing this, the leadership was protecting Khaira and even pointing fingers at the court. “This kind of behavior is condemnable”, the leaders said adding they would go to the people and expose Khaira as well as AAP. present on this occasion Bibi.
