Iqbal Grewal elected Punjab NSUI chief

cChandigarh, Iqbal Singh Grewal, son of renowned agriculturist Kartar Singh Daad, has been elected President of the Punjab unit of the National Students Union of india (NSUI).

There are a total of over 2400 delegates of the NSUI in Punjab of which about 900 cast their vote in the election.

Grewal polled 562 votes as against 292 votes polled by his immediate rival Neerinder Singh Sandhu. Of the five posts of general secretaries and secretaries besides three delegates to the national body, the supporters of Grewal managed to bag four posts of general secretaries and all the five posts of secretaries. Of the three delegates to the national body elected from Punjab Iqbal Singh Grewal group managed to have two of its candidates elected.

Incidentally, Grewal is a brother-in-law of Bikramjit Inder Singh Chahal, son of BIS Chahal, media advisor to to then Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

Elections to the Punjab unit of the NSUI concluded yesterday and immediately thereafter Iqbal Singh Grewal along with his supporters and the newly elected office bearers belonging to his group called on former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and sought his blessings.

Prominent among those present of the occasion included BIS Chahal, MLA Kewal Singh Dhillon, Major Amardeep Singh Sekhon and Karanpal Singh Sekhon. A large number of NSUI leaders were also present on the occasion.

Iqbal Singh Grewal assured Capt Amarinder Singh that he would strive to galvanise the party unit in Punjab and work for championing the cause of the student community.

The National Students Union of india is a frontal organization of the Congress party and is the students wing of the party. Many senior present party leaders have risen from the ranks of the NSUI and made it big at the national scene of the party.

Congress’ student wing, the NSUI-led alliance had dominated the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) election last year winning three out of four office bearers’ post.
