Root spoke to Daily Mirror after the team’s game against SunRisers Hyderabad and said that he had the chance to interact with SRH coach Brian Lara.

“I spoke with Brian Lara about batting for a few hours which was really insightful. At this stage of my career and where I am as a player, I feel like that is where I am going to learn the most, by picking people’s brains and thinking about what I can add to my own game and taking it forward into the next few years,” Root said about his experience.

The batter has already debuted in the IPL but has not been able to face any balls so far. Root has been in sensational form of late in Test cricket and has found his rhythm in England’s Bazball style. With the Ashes coming up, Root hopes to be in good touch. The batter said that the words of Kumar Sangakkara – RR’s coach and Lara are invaluable and he would look to apply them in the longest format of the game.

“You come here and try to develop parts of your white ball game and to be around T20 cricket has been amazing, but to get the chance to speak about Test cricket with Lara and Kumar Sangakkara and other current players is invaluable,” Root said.

Traditionally a player of the longer format, Root feels that top batters have the ability to adjust with different formats and batting is just batting.

“If you ask me, batting is batting and the best batters in the world, regardless of the format, play the situation in front of them better than anyone else consistently well, and that is it,” Root told Daily Mirror.
