Amritsar, The American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) has once again appealed to Akal Takht to revert to the original Nanakshahi Calender so as to end confusion over the clash of dates of gurpurabs and the other events.
In a letter to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, the AGPC today said the original calendar established a separate identity of Sikhs and it should be implemented in entirety so that the Sikhs all over the globe could observe various events uniformly.
The birthday of Guru Gobind Singh was celebrated on two different dates this time (on December 28 and January 5) due to that confusion, the letter said. “This discrepancy is due to the non-implementation of the original Nanakshahi Calender,” said AGPC president HS Hothi and coordinator Dr Pritpal Singh.
Majority of the Sikhs all over the world were of the opinion that the original calendar, approved by the takht, should be introduced, they said. “Organisations such as the AGPC, Pakistan Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and other Sikh bodies have not agreed to the changes made to the original Nanakshahi calendar and the
