OTTAWA — Health Minister Jane Philpott says she hopes the government will have more details this week on its plan to bring in 25,000 refugees by the end of the year.
Philpott says the government is working to address the urgent refugee crisis while being mindful of health and security concerns.
The minister, who is a physician, says the Syrian refugee population is relatively healthy.
She told reporters tuberculosis is a concern among refugees, but the numbers are not high and it is a treatable illness.
Philpott would not give specifics on where health screenings will take place.
Last week, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale indicated security screenings could possibly take place both overseas and on Canadian soil.
