Harper and Mulroney praise Nolin at funeral for late Senate Speaker

harperMontreal, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has paid tribute to Pierre Claude Nolin as one of the most distinguished, devoted and courageous parliamentarians of his generation.
Harper is one of several past and present politicians attending a funeral in Montreal this afternoon for the late Senate Speaker.
The prime minister told mourners at the Notre-Dame Basilica that one name kept coming back during the search for a Speaker last year — Nolin’s.

The 64-year-old died a week ago after a five-year battle with a rare form of cancer.
Former prime minister Brian Mulroney, who appointed Nolin to the Senate in 1993, praised him at the service as a man who left extraordinary memories.
Others at the funeral include Gov. Gen. David Johnston, Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard, Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre and ex-premier Lucien Bouchard.
