Gurdaspur parliamentary bye election: ELECTION COMMISSION BANS EXIT POLL

CHANDIGARH October 06 :

The Election Commission of india had today banned exit polls between 7;00 A.M and 6;30 P.M of October 11-10-2017 (Wednesday) in the poll bound Gurdaspur constituency.

Citing provisions of section 126 A of the Representations of the Peoples’ Act, 1951, a spokesman of the , EC said, “Exit polls cannot be conducted and publicized by means of print and electronic media or dissemination in any other manner starting from 7;00 A.M to 6:30PM. of October 11th, 2017 (Wednesday) ”

Clarifying further, he said that display of any election matter including results of any opinion poll or any other poll survey in any electronic media is prohibited during the period 48 hours, including the hour fixed for conclusion of poll in each of the phases in connection with the bye elections.

He further said that in this bye election, Election commission of India made mandatory to use of EVM and VVPAT.
