GOVT PROCURES MORE WHEAT THEN PREVIOUS YEAR-SUNIL JAKHAR

Chandigarh, May 1:

Reiterating firm commitment of Captain Government to ensure well being of farmers of state, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President and Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur Mr. Sunil Jakhar today said that state government has proved its credentials once again by successful procurement of third consecutive crop in last 13 months from mandies without any difficulty to our farmers.

In a statement issued here today, Mr. Sunil Jakhar said that even the arrival of wheat increased against the last year up to the same period in the state, still state government manage it properly for hassle free purchase. He said that the prime priority of the government led by Capt. Amrinder Singh was that as soon as crop arrives in purchasing yard it must be procured by agencies immediately and then farmer would be paid without delay. He said that the government has proved successful on these two fronts. He said that lifting is the task of the agencies only and the agencies are doing this thing accordingly. He also informed that this year the state government has saved the state exchequer too by making better transport and cartage policy.

Sunil Jakhar while divulging the further detail said that 1,15,64,899 MT of wheat had been purchased till Monday evening across the state whereas last year’s procurement was only 1,10,24,055 MT till the same period of year 2017. He said that PUNGRAIN had procured 26,62,006 MT, MARKFED had procured 25,57,011 MT, PUNSUP had procured 22,38,988 MT, Warehouse Corporation had procured 15,86,044 MT, Punjab Agro had procured 11,51,689 MT and FCI had procured 13,27,603 MT of wheat so far in the mandis. While still around 2 lakh MT of wheat is arriving in the mandis everyday. Likewise, he said that in order to make payment to the farmers within 48 hours, the different agencies had transferred Rs 16,166.69 Crores till last evening to the beneficiaries’ accounts.

On this occasion Mr. Jakhar also congratulated all the procurement agencies and the other stakeholders involved in this national cause of food grain procurement for the smooth procurement of wheat and he also appreciated the farmers of state for bumper wheat crop this year.
