New Delhi, Congress leader Manish Tewari on Thursday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre has no control over the instrumentalities of governance.
“The Home Secretary is a very sensitive position, he interlocutes to the Home Minister and may be the Prime Minister on a daily basis on matters of internal security. What kind of administration is this and what kind of political supervision and control are they exercising that the Home Secretary can ostensibly interfere into an investigation? So, it’s a very sad commentary on the functioning of this government,” he told ANI here while reacting to the controversy surrounding former home secretary Anil Goswami’s resignation.
The Congress leader also raised eyebrows on the kind of chaos and anarchy that is prevailing in the uppermost echelons of the government.
“Rather than trying to win kudos and patting themselves in the back, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi should tell the nation what kind of chaos and anarchy is prevailing in the uppermost echelons of his government,” he said.
“So, rather than trying to win cheap brownie points by saying that we sacked the Home Secretary or we compelled him to quit……This means the government has no control over the instrumentalities of governance,” he added.
L.C. Goyal has replaced Anil Goswami as the new Union Home Secretary following a controversy over the arrest of a former union minister in connection with the Saradha chit-fund scam.
The term of Goyal, a 1979-batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, will be for a period of two years from the date of taking over the charge.
