Chandigarh, In order to provide financial help to the physically challenged students, the Social Security department has formulated a scholarship plan and has earmarked Rs. 15 lakh to be disbursed amongst the beneficiaries.
Disclosing this here today, Mr. Surjit Kumar Jyani Health and Social Security Minister Punjab said that under the scholarship scheme an amount of Rs. 15 lakh has been allocated for this purpose and the hearing and speech impaired students from class 1 to class 8 would get Rs. 200/- month where as from class 9 till graduation also the students enrolled in technical diploma or degree courses would get Rs. 300/- per month.
Giving further eligibility details, Mr. Jyani said that only those students are eligible whose parents do not have an annual income of more than Rs. 60,000. He also said that the government has also decided that instead of giving the scholarship amount to the principals of the educational institutes, the amount would be directly credited to the savings bank accounts of the eligible beneficiaries.
Mr. Jyani also said that all the Districts Social Securiy Officers have been asked to obtain a list of such eligible candidates on the basis of the laid down eligibility norms. The required forms have been made available in the district offices which could be sent to the head office at Chandigarh duly forwarded by the Principals or Heads of the schools, colleges or other technical training institutes by December 31,2014. The bank details should be clearly mentioned along with the applications, he added.
