GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY FOR SC/BC STUDENTS TO AVAIL SCHOLARSHIP SCHEMES AIMED AT ADVANCEMENT IN LIFE : DHARAMSOT

CHANDIGARH, OCTOBER 1:

The Social Justice, Empowerment and Minority Affairs Minister, Punjab, Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot has called upon the students belonging to the SC/BC category studying in various educational institutions of the State to avail the golden opportunity in the form of the Post Matric scholarships for advancement in life.

Mr. Dharamsot further elaborated that the department has invited online applications from the students hailing from the State belonging to the SC/BC category for availing Post Matric scholarship scheme benefits. He further said that the eligible students can apply online through Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship portal on the www.scholarships.gov.in website from 1st to 15th October for new as well as the renewal applications pertaining to the 2018-19 session.

Disclosing more, Mr. Dharamsot said that the educational institutions would ensure to send the applications to their respective sanctioning authorities by 31st October. The institutions would rectify the applications and again send them to the sanctioning authorities till 30th November, 2018. Similarly, the sanctioning authorities would forward all the cases to their concerned departments by 10th December. The minister also said that the concerned departments can send their cases to the Social Justice, Empowerment and Minority Affairs Ministry till 20th December and the portal would be closed on 20th December, 2018 at 10 PM.

The minister further divulged that under the post matric scholarship scheme, those SC students can apply whose parents/guardians’ income is less than Rs. 2.50 Lakh annually. Similarly, the income of the parents/guardians of the students belonging to BC category must be less than Rs. 1 Lakh annually. The students hailing from the above mentioned categories are eligible for pursuing higher education in various courses throughout the country after matriculation.

The minister further added that Aadhar number is mandatory for the students for the purpose of registration on the portal before applying. A student can’t make an application or register in more than one institution. He also said that at the time of applying, a student needs to upload signed required undertaking, photo, caste certificate, and income certificate issued by the tehsildar. Adding more, the minister said that in case any student encounters any problem in applying online then he/she can contact the nodal officers belonging to the Technical Education and Industrial Training, Higher Education, School Education, Research and Medical Education and Animal Husbandry departments whose contact numbers are displayed on the helpdesk of the portal.
