GOLD PRICES in India fell sharply on Wednesday (May 17), as the gold rate for 10 grams of 24-carat gold in the country costs Rs.61,420 at the time of writing this story, while, the gold rate for 22-carat (10 grams) is Rs.56,300.
Gold futures on MCX traded lower today as the Gold futures, maturing on June 5, 2023, were down 0.01% at Rs.60240.00 on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) at 3:09 pm IST. Meanwhile, MCX silver futures (July 5) were down 0.25% at Rs.72406.00 per kilogram at 3:11 pm IST today.
Globally, gold prices remained steady in early Asian trade on Wednesday after retreating from the crucial $2,000 per ounce level in the previous session, while investors keenly awaited the outcome of the US debt-limit negotiations.
Spot gold held ground at $1,991.35 an ounce, while US gold futures were little changed at $1,995.20.
Data on Friday showed US consumer sentiment fell to a six-month low in May on concerns that political haggling over raising the federal government’s borrowing limit could trigger a recession.
