Gardiner Expressway closed for fall maintenance

One of the busiest arteries in the city has been shut down for weekend maintenance, creating headaches for thousands of drivers.

The Gardiner Expressway will be closed in both directions from Highway 427 to Carlaw Avenue until 5 a.m. Monday.

The closure is required to “ensure the safety” of crews working on the highway, according to a news release from the City of Toronto.

During the closure, workers are expected to clean catch-basins, repaint pavement markings, fill potholes, inspect overhead signs and repair guardrails, among other activities.

Motorists are encouraged to use Lake Shore Boulevard, the Queensway, Richmond Street, King Street, Queen Street and Evans Avenue as alternative routes during the closure.
