Foundation stone of ‘Jang-e-azadi’ memorial to be laid on October 12

Chandigarh,  Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today convened a series of meetings with the senior leaders of the SAD-BJP, Cabinet Ministers, Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs besides the officers of the state government to finalize the arrangements of the foundation laying ceremony of world class Jang-e-Azaadi Memorial, to come up at Kartarpur near Jalandhar at a cost of Rs.200 crore over an area of 25 acre, on October 12.

Interacting with the leaders from Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Ludhiana here at Punjab Bhawan, the Chief Minister exhorted the leaders of SAD-BJP and the top brass of the government to elicit huge participation of the people from different walks of life on this historic event. Meanwhile, Mr. Badal solicited maximum participation of the people from across the state to acknowledge the enormous contribution made by the unsung heroes and martyrs especially from Punjab in the country’s freedom movement. He said that this memorial would showcase the unprecedented valour and commitment of our forefathers to free our motherland from the yoke of British imperialism.

The Chief Minister expressed hope that the upcoming memorial after completion would prove to be a beacon to kindle the spirit of nationalism amongst the future generations. Mr. Badal deputed the Cabinet Minister Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema and his Special Principal Secretary Mr. KJS Cheema to overall supervise the arrangements and ensure comfortable journey of the people arriving at venue of the function. He called upon the people to participate in this function with great enthusiasm and gaiety thereby demonstrating the ethos of nationalism and patriotism on one hand and to pay befitting tributes to the great national martyrs and heroes of the national freedom struggle on the other.

Taking part in the deliberations, the Food and Civil Supplies Minister Mr. Adesh Pratap Singh Kairon and Information & Public Relations Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia assured the Chief Minister that the rank and file of the SAD-BJP alliance would leave no stone unturned to make this event a huge success.
