Councillor Rob Ford is helping his brother, Doug Ford pay off his 2014 campaign debt.
The brothers are hosting a fundraiser on June 30 to recoup some of the funds spent on Doug Ford’s mayoral election campaign. Doug Ford says he spent $600,000 of his own money on the campaign.
Doug Ford jumped into the city’s mayoral race on September 12, 2014 after Rob Ford dropped out to focus on cancer treatment. The move left him with a short time to campaign funds ahead of the Oct. 27 election. He said that he eventually managed to raise about $300,000 bringing his total to $900,000. Rob Ford also spent $200,000 out of pocket before he dropped out of the race.
The fundraiser, which will be held at the Riviera Parque Dining Banquet Convention Centre in Vaughan, will cost $250 a ticket and comes with a promise of $187 rebate cheque from the city. Guests will also be able to purchase $1000 tickets for access to a more intimate reception with the Fords. Patrick Brown, theleader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party will also be speaking at the event.
The two also hosted another fundraiser to offset campaign debt earlier in the year on May 14.
