Toronto, Police warned commuters to exercise caution on the roads on Tuesday morning as thick fog reduced visibility in the Greater Toronto Area.
Environment Canada issued a fog advisory for parts of southern Ontario on Monday night, and the shroud had not lifted by Tuesday morning.
The weather agency warned that there could be “near zero visibility” in affected areas, and Toronto police took to Twitter to warn drivers to slow down.
“We have a number of collision calls where fog may have been a factor, slow down and drive at a speed that suits the conditions,” police posted on Twitter.
Staff at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport warned that the fog was affecting flights, and advised travellers to check status online before leaving home.
According to the special weather statement, many locations affected by the fog advisory were reporting less than 500 metre visibility.
The Waterloo-Wellington area is still under Environment Canada’s fog advisory.
The advisory has been lifted in these areas:
Toronto
Dunnville-Caledonia-Haldimand
Niagara
Halton-Peel
York-Durham
Dufferin-Innisfil
Hamilton
Barrie-Orillia-Midland
Peterborough-Kawartha Lakes
