Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh

Harpreet Singh (28), a resident of Wander Jatana village in Faridkot district, was gunned down by two persons near his house in Manila (Philippines) last evening. He had been running a finance company there, said Amarjit Singh, his younger brother.
His family here was informed about the murder this afternoon. The accused fired eight shots at Harpreet, killing him on the spot.
Sukhpal Kaur, mother of the deceased, said Harpreet had left for the Philippines about eight years ago on a work permit. “He was doing well as a financier. We were planning to get him married,” she said.
Harpreet belonged to a marginal farmer’s family, owning 7 acres. Over two dozen financiers from Moga, Faridkot and Bathinda have been killed in Manila in the past 10 years, said an officer of the district police.
“We appeal to the state government to help us bring back the body,” said Amarjit.
