Moga, A local judicial court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Kamaljit Singh Brar, general secretary of the Punjab Youth Congress (PYC), for allegedly submitting a fake medical certificate to skip court hearings in a criminal case.
Kamaljit is the son of senior Congress leader and Baghapurana MLA Darshan Singh Brar.
The court of GS Johal, Judicial Magistrate (First Class), while issuing the warrants, has also summoned Dr Ajay Bansal, a Jagraon-based medical practitioner, to appear in the court and explain why he issued a fake certificate.
The warrants have also been issued against Kamaljit’s aides Ravinder Singh and Jaskirat Singh. The judge has summoned them on May 24, cancelling their bail and bail bonds.
It is learnt that Kamaljit skipped two court hearings on medical grounds.
An FIR under Sections 323, 118, 506 and 149 of the IPC had been registered against Kamaljit and his four aides — Jaskirat, Ravinder, Mandeep Singh and Daljit Singh — on November 27, 2011, in connection with a clash during the election of PYC office-bearers.
Youth Congress leaders had clashed at Kokri Vehniwal village in the district, even as Ravinder and Manpreet Singh Neeta of rival groups were vying to get elected as PYC delegates. Four persons, including Ravinder, had been injured in a shootout.
After a preliminary investigation, a case was registered against Kamaljit, Ravinder, Mandeep, Jaskirat and Daljit at Mehna police station.
On November 17, 2011, another case had been registered against Kamaljit and his aides under Sections 382, 323 and 148 of the IPC at Baghapurana police station on the charges of looting and assaulting rival youth leader Rajdeep Singh.
