London: Tottenham Hotspur pummelled Manchester City 4-1 on Saturday to condemn Manuel Pellegrini’s team to a third defeat in four games and leave them exposed at the Premier League summit.
City took a 25th-minute lead at White Hart Lane through Kevin De Bruyne, but Eric Dier drove home an equaliser on the stroke of half-time before Toby Alderweireld’s header early in the first half put the hosts in front.
Harry Kane claimed his first club goal of the season and Erik Lamela added a fourth for Spurs as Mauricio Pochettino’s side followed Juventus and West Ham United in inflicting defeat on the season’s early pace-setters.
While Spurs climb to fifth, City could now concede first place to local rivals Manchester United if Louis van Gaal’s side prevail at home to Sunderland later on Saturday.
West Ham and unbeaten Leicester City could also draw level on points with City, the former hosting Norwich City, the latter entertaining Arsenal.
