Environment Canada has confirmed the occurrence of a second tornado in Dufferin County this past weekend.
Environment Canada previously said that an EF-2 tornado with winds of 180 to 220 km/h hit Teviotdale on Sunday evening and on Wednesday the weather agency said that a separate EF-1 tornado with winds of 135 to 175 kilometres an hour also caused damage in nearby Marsville on Sunday.
According to a news release, the tornado had a damage radius of about two kilometres by 500 metres and snapped large trees and caused some “light damage” to barns and a single house.Environment Canada also sent crews to investigate reports of damage in the Utica area on Sunday, however it was determined that the threshold for a tornado was not met. Damage in that area included downed trees and an airport hangar that was toppled by winds
The tornadoes in Teviotdale and Marsville were the third and fourth to hit the province so far this year. On average, there are about 12 confirmed tornadoes in Ontario every year.
