EMERGENCY SESSION OF PUNJAB VIDHAN SABHA SHOULD BE CALLED IMMEDIATELY TO DISCUSS THE LAW AND ORDER SITUATION IN PUNJAB: RANA SODHI

Rana-Gurmit-Singh-SodhiNeeds to have brainstorming session on the issue of DRUGS

Chandigarh 31-07-15: Punjab congress today demanded the Chief Minister of Punjab, to immediately call the emergency session of Vidhan Sabha and tell on the floor of the house about the preparedness of the state police towards the safety of common man in Punjab. This was stated by S Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Vice President PPCC and MLA Guru Har Sahai, in a press release issued today. The Punjab congress will take this to streets among the people if this demand is not adhered to. The chief minister of Punjab S Parkash Singh Badal should tell the people of Punjab is the state police prepared for any terrorist attack like the one in Dinanagar recently. The police stations of Punjab are virtually without the staff, most of the policemen are on the duty of VVIP”s and the halqa jathedars of ruling SAD. Nearly more than 2000 persons are only guarding the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and few from the number one family of Punjab. The machinery and the weapons with the policemen are out dated and completely incompetent to take these highly expertise terrorist from across the border. There were no bulletproof vests available for the force during this Dinanagar operation which resulted in such high number of casualty.

Commenting on the statement of the Home Minister of India Sh Rajnath Singh in parliament yesterday, S Rana Sodhi said that already the minister has admitted that there are big gaps and loose ends in the border of Punjab with Pakistan, specially the riverine terrain, which has very easy access for the terrorists and more over due to strict vigil on the J&K border the terrorists were finding some alternate. The entire country specially Punjab has been kept on the maximum alert. How the chief minister, who is the custodian of the safety of the people of Punjab run from his primary responsibility of maintaining the peace the state. The Punjab Police has to be given more ultra modern training as well as the equipment to tackle these kind of insurgencies.

Lambasting the sangat darshan programs of the Chief Minister Of Punjab Rana Said that more alarming is when Mr Badal goes for sangat darshan, which he does for ten days in a month, the entire police machinery is busy arranging the security for his programs and making them successful. Even the police from neighboring districts is also called for the arrangements of the sangat darshan.

Speaking on the drug menace in Punjab, S Sodhi said that The menace has taken a horrifying shape in the state where already, according to the RTI information provided by the Punjab government, there are more than 6,30,000 (Six Lacs thirty thousand) patients who have approached and registered as drug addicts in different centres across the state. This is the government figure which does not reflect the people who don’t even approach these centres and this will be atleast five times what has been given in the RTI. Now again the astonishing fact which comes from this is that Bhatinda tops the number of drug addicts, which is the constituency of Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Wife of S Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab. The drugs are flowing freely here under the patronage of police and politicians. Already certain ministers and top politicians belonging to the Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP, have been grilled by the enforcement directorate on this drug trade. The question is what has the Chief Minister done in last eight years to address this serious problem. Again he runs from his responsibility saying it cross border and central government should take care of this. S Badal constituted drug prevention board, can he tell the people of Punjab what is the status of this board, what have they done to curb this menace. State government can make stringent laws for the drug peddlers just to curb this menace. It is pertinent to mention that here that Sh Rahul Gandhi, Vice President, INC mentioned this matter during his speeches in Chandigarh but the state government didn’t took those figures seriously. It is a social evil and we should collectively try to address the problem going across the party lines.
