Drugs in prison: PSHRC takes cognizance of MP Khanna’s complaint, asks ADGP prisons Punjab to submit report

avinashChandigarh, May 11:  Taking cognizance of the complaint of MP Rajya Sabha Avinash Rai Khanna raising issue of prison staff found using drugs in Kapurthala and Ferozepur, the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) has directed the Additional Director General of Police (prisons) Punjab to inquire into the matter and submit report a week before next date in case fixed for July 7. Earlier in his representation to the PSHRC the MP Rajya Sabha had raised issue of rampant use of drugs by the staff of Punjab police deployed in prisons. He has also quoted media reports and suggested that a dope test of the staff should be conducted for all inmates including jail authorities and prisoners so that preventive measures could be taken.
