New Delhi, India’s state broadcaster Doordarshan was left red-faced on Thursday after one of its news anchor prounounced Chinese President Xi Jinping’s name as “Eleven Jinping”, mistaking the word Xi for the Roman numeral XI, said an AFP report. The anchor was sacked later, Doordarshan’s chief executive Jawahar Sircar said later, adding that steps had been taken to avoid repetition of such instances in future. “We’ve taken action plus (we are) upgrading systems,” Sircar tweeted. The broadcaster, however, did not return calls for comment immediately, the AFP report said. The blunder is a big embarrassment for the Indian government, which is currently engaged with talks with China, with which it has shared sour relations particularly in the realm of borders, over a long period. Xi Jinping is currently in India with the First Wife on a three-day visit. His tour started on Prime Miniser Narendra Modi’s 65th birthday in the latter’s homestate Gujarat, which is a break from the tradition.
