New Delhi: It seems as if the preparations of Team India for the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2015 are not up to the mark. If one of their opener is going through a rough patch, then the other one is nursing an injury.
The countdown for ICC marquee event has started as the tournament is set to start from February 14. At a time, when other major contenders to win the tournament – South Africa, Australia, New Zealand – are showing their batting prowess, india are quite unsure about their openers.
Out of sorts Dhawan is showing no signs of getting his lost form back. The southpaw has been struggling with the bat ever since the tour of Australia started in December with the four-match Test series. After a poor run in whites, the Delhi-lad couldn’t manage to get back his form even in the triangular series, featuring India, Australia and England.
With critics coming hard on the 29-year-old left handed batsman, his position in the playing XI is looking in serious threat, at least for now.
If Dhawan is totally off colour, then, his opening partner Sharma, who scored a record-breaking double ton against Sri Lanka in November, is healing an injury.
After smashing a magnificent ton in their opening match of the tri-series against Australia, Rohit suffered a hamstring injury. And chances are high that he won’t participate in rest of the series.
Despite his purple patch, the right-hander has been marred with injuries, which is a worrying sign for Dhoni & Co, who will be the title defenders in Australia and New Zealand.
On top of it two premier batsman of Team India – Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane – haven’t done anything noteworthy in the last two ODIs.
In such a scenario Sharma’s fitness and Dhawan’s batting form are of paramount importance for Team India.
