Defamation case : Court issues summons to Subramanian Swamy

Chennai,  A local court on Wednesday ordered issue of summons to BJP leader Subramanian Swamy to appear before it on October 30 in connection with a defamation suit filed against him by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The Principal Sessions Judge Audinathan also ordered issue of summons to authorities of Tamil Daily Dinamalar and English daily Times of India, others named in the petition for publishing the statement issued by Swamy on the fishermen issue. While the government filed the defamation case against the Editor, Printer and Publishers of Dinamalar Chennai Edition on September 8, a similar petition against Times of India’s edition here was moved yesterday. Jayalalithaa had filed a defamation case against Swamy. Swamy in his letter to the Prime Minister had alleged that the boats apprehended by the Sri Lankan navy belong to Jayalalithaa’s close aide Sasikala and the DMK leader TR Baalu.
