Amritsar, A day after the clash between SGPC task force and a group of Sikh youths, things returned to normal at the Golden Temple complex here today.
The shrine witnessed a huge rush of devotees as usual not only from Punjab but from other parts of the country also. Foreign tourists were also seen in the Darbar Sahib complex.
While a majority of devotees, especially those who came from other parts of the country, feigned ignorance about any clash, those from local or neighbouring districts said they came to know about the incident only through the media. They said they did not feel any panic or tension today.
Rituraj, who came all the way from Kerala, said that this was his first visit to the shrine. He admitted he was not aware of yesterday’s clash. He said there was a great rush of devotees and he and his family members had to wait long in the queue to pay obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum.
Mahender Singh from Haryana said he did not witness any tension or panic. The clash should not have been occurred. Devotees should maintain ‘maryada’, he said.
But local residents postponed their programme to visit the shrine by a day in order to avoid any untoward situation.
Panic had gripped the devotees at the complex yesterday when a clash erupted between the SGPC task force and Sikh youths leaving at least five persons injured.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Parampal Singh said that 32 persons were taken into preventive custody. Today, they were sent to judicial custody.
