Criminal flees, 4 cops suspended

Pathankot,Four policemen allegedly helped a hardened criminal escape from the local Civil Hospital early this morning. They have been placed under suspension. The criminal was shifted to the hospital from the Pathankot sub-jail on December 20 after he complained of pain in the chest.Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rakesh Kumar Kaushal said a case had been registered with Division No 1 police station. Two policemen had been arrested. The other two were at large. He said Satinderjit Singh alias Baba was facing several criminal cases. Also known as Bitta, he was arrested by the Pathankot police on October 14 on a tip-off and subsequently lodged in the Pathankot sub-jail.“Satinderjit escaped at 3 am. We learnt about the incident in the morning. We have stepped up surveillance in the city. All entry and escape points have been sealed and check points erected,” said the SSP.He said they had got some leads and had sent search teams to Amritsar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Nawanshahr. A dog squad had been pressed into service. “We hope to nab the two policemen and Satinderjit in 24 hours,” the SSP said.A senior police officer claimed that a woman would regularly meet Satinderjit in the sub-jail.“Going by intelligence inputs and jail records, we believe the woman’s name is Jiwanjyoti. But this may not be her real name. We are certain that this woman is a vital link.“Once she is arrested, all pieces of the puzzle will fall together,” said an officer investigating the case.
