Attack on Ajnala police station:
Amritpal Singh’s supporters ran amok and attacked the Ajnala Police Station in February.
After the attack, the Punjab Police said, ‘what happened should not have happened. The Punjab Police did not retaliate as the law and order situation could have worsened. Moreover the rioters had the Guru Granth Sahib in their hands and had we retaliated, the situation would have got worse. We respect the Guru Granth Sahib.”
Following the incident, the Punjab Police released Lovepreet Toofan.
Former Punjab chief minister, Captain Amarinder Singh said, ‘this is not only a complete collapse of the law and order situation in Punjab, but it is more serious than that. This incident has significant impact on the security situation for both the state and the nation.”
