Chandigarh, July 2: The Communist Party of India would take initiative to mobilise democratic forces against anti-people policies of the Akali Dal-BJP government in the state headed by Parkash Singh Badal.
The decision to this effect was taken at 3-day meeting of its national council that concluded here today.
Briefing media persons, party’s national executive committee member Dr Joginder Dayal said both the Akali Dal as well as the BJP had unleashed communal agenda to win 2017 Assembly elections. Reinforcing his argument, he cited the example of shifting of terrorists like Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar undergoing life imprisonment to Punjab jails which was being opposed by the BJP. He said while the Akali Dal was trying to consolidate its Sikh vote bank in the process, it alliance partner was appealing to its Hindu vote bank.
“Such a game is dangerous as Punjab has suffered much earlier”, Dr Dayal said.
Through a resolution, the national council expressed “deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation, increasing atrocities on dalits and women, growing menace of narcotics, indebtedness of the state and growing nexus between corrupt leaders of the ruling alliance and police administration. Here is growing politicisation of state civil and police administration”.
Commenting upon the drug menace, the party described the situation as alarming. “Lacs of people have fallen to addiction to drugs, much more than in any state in the country. The economic crisis of agriculture, which is centres on unfavourable marketing of inputs and outputs, is leading to increasing rural indebtedness as well as state indebtedness. The peasants and agricultural labourers are committing suicides”, it added.
