COVID-19 update: India logs 3,947 new infections, 18 fatalities in 24 hours

India logged 3,947 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the country’s COVID-19 active caseload to 39,583 according to the Union Health Ministry data.

In the last 24 hours, 5,096 recoveries took place increasing the total recoveries to 4,40,19,095. The death toll climbed to 5,28,629.

The active cases stand at 0.09 per cent and the national recovery rate is currently at 98.73 per cent.

The daily positivity rate stands at 1.23 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate is 1.44 per cent.

So far, 218.52 crore vaccine doses (94.84 crore second dose and 21.19 crore precaution dose) have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive; 34,21,962 doses administered in last 24 hours.

A total of 89.50 crore COVID-19 tests have been conducted so far; 3,20,734 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

Delhi recorded 75 fresh Covid cases with a positivity rate of 0.87 per cent on Thursday, according to data issued by the health department.

No Covid-related fatality was reported, the department said in its latest bulletin. With the fresh cases, Delhi’s COVID-19 tally has climbed to 20,03,282. The death toll stood at at 26,501, it said.

Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 453 new coronavirus cases and two pandemic-related deaths, the health department said.

The state’s COVID-19 infection tally rose to 81,20,954, and death toll rose to 1,48,338. There are 3,276 active coronavirus cases in the state now.

The state had recorded 492 cases and three fatalities on Wednesday. Mumbai recorded 100 new cases on Thursday.

Chhattisgarh on Thursday reported 62 new COVID-19 cases at a positivity rate of one per cent, taking the tally to 11,76,251, while the death toll increased by one to reach 14,134, an official said.

The recovery count stood at 11,61,645 after 77 people recovered from the infection during the day, leaving the state with 472 active cases, he said.

Raipur led with 21 cases, followed by 9 in Durg, among other districts. No coronavirus cases were reported in 12 of the 28 districts in the state, the official said.

Tamil Nadu on Thursday reported 531 new COVID-19 infections, including a returnee from Singapore, pushing the caseload to 35,82,582, said the Health Department. The death toll remained unchanged at 38,046 as there were no fresh fatalities.

Chennai, which has been reporting over 100 cases for the last few days, added 98 infections to the tally, followed by Chengalpet with 51 and Coimbatore 40. The rest were spread across other districts.

Telangana on Thursday recorded 96 new COVID-19 cases, taking the overall caseload to 8,37,792. Hyderabad district reported the highest number of cases with 47.

A COVID-19 bulletin said 109 people recuperated from the infection raising the cumulative number of recoveries till date to 8,33,013. The recovery rate stood at 99.43 per cent.

The COVID-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh rose by 20 to reach 10,54,288 on Thursday, while the death toll remained unchanged at 10,771 as no casualty was reported during the day, a health official said.

The positivity rate stood at 0.4 per cent. The COVID-19 recovery count increased by 26 to 10,43,400, leaving the state with 117 active cases, he said.

Jammu and Kashmir reported 22 new Covid cases on Thursday, taking the infection tally to 4,79,137, an official said. Six cases were reported from Jammu and 16 from Kashmir, he said.

Odisha’s COVID-19 tally rose to 13,33,887 on Thursday as 180 more people, including 31 children, tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said.

The state had recorded 208 cases on Wednesday. The toll remained unchanged at 9,192 as no fresh fatality was reported. Besides, 53 other patients have died due to comorbidities so far, it said.
