Country’s first satellite controlled solar power project inaugurated in punjab

DSC_7176Lalpur (Hoshiarpur), May 5: Taking another leap in the field of solar power generation, India’s first satellite controlled Single Axis Tracking East West Tilt Technology based solar power plant has come up at village Lalpur of District Hoshiarpur. This particular solar power plant has been constructed by a Mumbai based company named Aditya Medisales with an investment of Rs 35 crore and it would produce 4.2 MW of electricity. Single Axis Tracking East West Tilt Technology follows the path of the sun during the day to generate 8 percent more number of units of electricity as compared to solar power plants having traditional fixed type structures.

This was informed by Mr Bikram Singh Majithia, Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Revenue, Information & Public Relations, after inaugurating the plant here today.

Congratulating Aditya Medisales, which is part of the Sun Pharma group, for investing Rs 35 crore on this project, Mr. Majithia invited the company to invest more in the field of renewable energy production in the state as Punjab provides the best environment for investment in Renewable energy sector with 25 yrs PPA. “It would make a huge difference towards protecting environment and generating clean energy,” he said while adding that Punjab has fixed target of generating more than 4200 MW solar power by the 2022.

The minister said that it is due to the good policies of the Punjab government that one of the leading groups of the country, Sun Pharma, has invested in this project. He said that different companies have already invested more than Rs 1,300 crore in solar power projects while an investment of around Rs 1,700 crore is in the pipeline.

Mr. Majithia said that India’s largest rooftop plant of 7.50 MW at Radha Soami Satsang at Beas (Amritsar) would be expanded to 31.5 MW which would make it the world’s largest rooftop PV plant. Mr Majithia thanked the Radha Soami Satsang, Beas for contributing in a big way for saving our environment. The minister also requested other religious heads of Dera’s to install rooftop solar power plants on their premises.

Mr Majithia said due to these initiatives, the Punjab government had been awarded by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy for being one of the best performing States as far as capacity addition was concerned. He said PEDA had also been declared one of the best performing State nodal agencies under the energy conservation programme during 2012 & 2013 by the Union Ministry of Power.

He further added that more than 1,500 Applications have been received under net metering Solar Roof top and the Government was going to further promote the concept ‘Generate your own Clean and Green Energy and protect the environment for future generations’.

Mr Vidya Sagar Tulluri, Executive Director, Aditya Medisales, thanked the Punjab government for easy clearance of this project. While speaking on the occasion, he said that they did not face any bureaucratic grapevine and this project was commissioned smoothly within six months. He said PEDA and PSPCL facilitated the execution of the project. He assured that their company is interested in investing more in Punjab. He urged other companies to invest in Punjab due to the pro-business policies formulated by CM Mr Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mrs Mohinder Kaur Josh, PEDA chief executive officer Dr Amarpal Singh, PEDA Director Mr Balour Singh, ADC (D) Mr Harbir Singh, SDM Mr Anand Sagar Sharma, besides several others.
