Convicted Haryana IAS officer held for ‘conspiring to kill close friend’

8New Delhi, A suspended Haryana batch IAS officer, convicted in the teachers recruitment scam in the state, has been arrested by the Delhi police Crime Branch for allegedly conspiring with a gangster to murder his close friend, who is a Delhi-based businessman.

The IAS officer has been identified by the Crime Branch as Sanjiv Kumar. He was arrested from New Friends Colony, South Delhi.
Kumar, along with former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, his son Ajay Chautala and 53 others, was earlier convicted on charges of corruption by a Delhi court for illegally recruiting 3,206 junior teachers.
Kumar was then the director of Primary Education in Haryana. He initially was a whistleblower, but in the CBI probe that followed he was also found to be involved in the scam.

Speaking to The Tribune, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said that Kumar who was lodged at Tihar Jail was out on a bail.

The other men, who have been arrested by the Crime Branch in connection with the case, are alleged gangsters Shoukat Pasha and two shooters Taufiq and Manna. Police have also seized weapons from them.

Yadav confirmed that Pasha is a police informer who reported to the Crime Branch that Kumar had conspired with him to kill Kumar’s close friend with whom Kumar had developed a property dispute.
“The attack was to take place at a restaurant in New Friends Colony (South Delhi). Kumar was be sitting with his friend at the restaurant when the attack would have been carried out. And the plan was that during the attack, Kumar would get injured and later blame the Chautalas for the attack. But Kumar and the other accused were caught before the attack could take place,” Yadav said.
