Chandigarh, June 13: The Punjab Congress will be holding village level awareness campaign making people aware about the anti-people policies of Modi government. Starting from June 14 the campaign will last till June 21 concentrating on ever increasing prices of petroleum and its products, anti-farmer and anti-poor policies.
Giving this information here today the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president and Member of Parliament Lok Sabha Mr Sunil Jakhar stated that earlier similar protests have been held at district and vidhan sabha constituency level. He also released a poster carrying statistics and facts about the failure of Modi government in controlling petro prices and bringing respite to common man. It also contains data of the former PM Dr Manmohan Singh’s term wherein Congress govt bought costly crude oil and gave diesel on cheaper rate whereas now the Modi govt is buying cheaper crude oil and selling costly diesel.
Mr Sunil Jakhar stated that the Modi government has recorded steep hike in petro prices which has adversely affected the agriculture sector as well as the other sectors of country. It has led to inflation and affected the economy in a bad way.
The Punjab Congress will highlight these failures of Modi govt during its campaign to make rural pockets well aware of the ways center government was duping them. He added that diesel was basic need of the agriculture sector and if the prices keep on spiraling, it will go out of reach of the common man,
Mr Jakhar stated that since the day Modi govt has taken over country, the oil prices have increased by 9 times. While on the other hand, under Captain Amarinder Singh, the Congress govt in Punjab has not increased any state tax on diesel.
Terming the remarks of SAD over this issue as ill fated, Mr Jakhar said that despite having an alliance with the BJP, the SAD govt seemed to be helpless. He added that in 2017, just a day before counting during 2017 vidhan sabha elections the Akali govt accepted Rs 31000 cr as a loan, which was never borrowed, and left the state in deep financial crisis. Now the Congress government was working hard to deal with the financial mess state has landed into. Mr Jakhar said that Congress govt was busy clearing the problems Akali govt had created so that the future generation is saved.
