CHANDIGARH, December 23: Congress party today ridiculed the Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Himmat Singh Shergill’s attempts to link PCC president Capt Amarinder Singh with the liquor business in Punjab.

The party said, at least Shergill should not be saying things like that since he had enjoyed a closer position and proximity with Capt Amarinder to have a better and correct idea of things.

In a joint statement the Congress legislators including Balbir Singh Sidhu, Hardayal Kambhoj and Rana KP Singh reminded Shergill that it was Capt Amarinder who had facilitated his studies abroad after the untimely death of his father Shamsher Singh Shergill, who died in service while being an Additional Advocate General in Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The Congress leaders said, if Shergill’s charges were to be taken seriously, then it should mean that even his father was also linked in the chain as he was a close associate and a colleague of Capt Amarinder as it was he (Capt Amarinder), who had appointed him as Additional Advocate General.

They said, since Capt Amarinder had facilitated and financed Himmat Shergill’s studies, he should come clear about that also. “Don’t you mean by implication that you also got benefitted from the chain you have been crying hoarse about?” they asked the AAP leader.

The Congress leaders said, Shergill spent four years in London and returned a trained barrister to practice in India. “Everything was arranged by Capt Amarinder for him including the stay, study and all expenses”, they said, regretting, “someone like him leveling such baseless allegations only reflects ingratitude and ungratefulness”.
