Chandigarh: 09-The Malwa region of Punjab is the most worse affected by the Cancer and therefore the set up of AIIMS in Malwa is fully justified. This was stated today by Sh Rampal Dhaipi, General Secretary PPCC in a statement issued here today. He said that the Malwa region of Punjab has been the most affected by the cancer, every house is already undergoing the treatment for cancer. He said that we will very soon meet the Hon” Governor Punjab on this issue and press for our demand to set up the AIIMS in the Malwa region. The people of Malwa need this health care urgently and their basic need is to get this cancer super specialty AIIMS. The people of Malwa have been suffering for this cause for too long and this is their genuine demand which should be fulfilled at any cost. He appealed to every political party not to politicise this issue further as this should only come up at Mansa region. There is a cancer train which is running with subsidised rates for the cancer patients of this region from Bhatinda to Bikaner.
Dhaipi further said that he alongwith his team members have been working for this cause for the last ten years. He even organized special health care check up camps in the Mansa where more than ten thousand people were investigated for this deadly disease. He also said that a survey was conducted by the central ground water board with the help of then Water resources minister Sh Pawan Bansal to check the ground water for drinking use. The board also detected that percentage of arsenic and Fluoride was present in the water is more than the permissible limit which was one of the major cause for Cancer. He also mentioned about his efforts to raise the questions in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha by the then CLP leader Smt Rajinder Kaur Bhattal. Even documentary film (ROK SAKO TA ROKO) was produced to make the people of Malwa aware about this Cancer and bring truth before them. The deputation of the Malwa leaders met Smt Ambika Soni who granted Ambulance for this cause too from her MPLAD fund. Even Malwa Leader delegation met the then health minister Sh Ghulam Nabi Azad with Smt Rajinder Kaur Bhattal to press for the demand for AIIMS wherein positive assurance was given from the minister too.
Dhaipi said that the claims by Smt Harsimrat Kaur Badal for the setting up of AIIMS are hollow as it was the congress leaders who did struggle for this cause for last ten years. The MP from Bhatinda is just taking politically mileage from this issue, the actual credit for this should go to the congress leaders from Malwa region. He appealed to all the political parties not to fight on this issue because this is the region which is deprived of the healthcare facilties.
