Congress hijacking Zila Parishad, Samiti polls: SAD

Chandigarh, Sept 6: The Shiromani Akali dal(SAD) today accused that the Congress regime was hell went on murdering democracy by creating all types of hurdles for the rival candidates.

In a statement issued by SAD senior vice president Dr.Daljeet Singh Cheema said that many senior officers concerned with the polls remained absent from their offices creating problems for filing nominations. On the other hand, the officers of the rural development department camped in the houses of Congress MLAs to facilitate the nominations of the Congress candidates.

Disturbed over this action of the ruling party, the activists of SAD-BJP had to protest in many parts of the state. This is despite the fact that the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had brought the acts of commission and omission of the concerned officers. Of the 13 complaints brought to the notice of the commission, corrective measures were taken in three cases.

Since the situation is turning from bad to worse, the SAD senior vice president Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema has shot another letter today to the Commission listing the incidents of discrimination and urging for strong and determined intervention to set right the poll process and ensure a level playing field for all.

In his letter , Dr. Cheema has listed 16 more complaints from different districts and block samities and also the pictures of deserted offices of the tehsildars and Block Development Officers; . He said that the aggrieved candidates and their supporters were forced to resort to dharnas at scores of places to seek justice.

Dr. Cheema has urged the Commission to ensure that all aspirants are able to file the nomination paper on the fourth and last day of nominations i.e on Friday. Moreover, the complaints forwarded with the letter may be immediately addressed without fail
