New Delhi, June 16: Mounting pressure, the Congress, while questioning the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanded Supreme Court monitored SIT probe into money laundering and disputed the claim made by External Affairs Sushma Swaraj that she helped fugitive former IPL chief Lalit Modi procure travel documents from the British government as humanitarian gesture.
Addressing a news conference here, party spokesman and former minister Anand Sharma questioned as to why the government did not go in for appeal against the Delhi High Court decision on Modi’s passport.
Directing his attack against the Prime Minister, he said the decision against filing an appeal in the Supreme Court had the endorsement from the highest level.
He charged the Modi government with protecting Lalit Modi.
He asked as to who took the decision not to file appeal against the high court verdict.
He said all those involved in this ‘sordid affair’ must resign and said Swaraj had no moral right to continue.
