New Delhi, The Congress on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to question the Centre on the lack of transparency in the appointment of key constitutional positions and asked the government to come clean on it.
“The government is not transparent in its approach nor is it honouring the settled processes for the appointment of people to sensitive or key positions including the CVC……Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government have not respected that,” Congress leader Anand Sharma told ANI here.
“The Supreme Court as a protector of the Constitution surely has taken the right step by asking the government and the government must come clean,” he added.
The Supreme Court has reportedly questioned the Centre on the lack of transparency in the appointment of Chief Vigilance Commissioner and Vigilance Commissioner.
The apex court said transparency is the hallmark for the selection procedure. The apex court further said the post should not be restricted to bureaucrats and people across all sections should be allowed to apply for the same.
Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, who appeared on behalf of the government, assured the Supreme Court that no final decision will be taken for the appointment of Chief Vigilance Commissioner during the pendency of the case.
