New Delhi, A delegation of Punjab Congress MLAs led by Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Sunil Jakhar today met President Pranab Mukherjee and urged him to dismiss the SAD-BJP government due to its alleged acts of omission and commission, including involvement of its ministers in drug trade.A memorandum was also submitted to the president in which the Congress leaders said: “The drastic measure (read dismissal of the government) is required to protect the life and security of the people of Punjab.”They alleged that the drug menace has assumed scary dimension in the state as about 70 per cent of youth are addicted to drugs. They attributed the menace to nexus between the mafia and ministers, MLAs and party functionaries of the SAD-BJP.They informed the President that three ministers have been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for their alleged role in the multi-crore drug racket. The main accused in a drug racket named the state’s Revenue Minister, Bikramjit Singh Majithia, who is also a relative of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. They alleged that instead of dismissing Majithia, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal organised a dharna at three places on the Indo-Pak border against the Border Security Force holding its personnel responsible for the flow of drugs into the state from Pakistan and Afghanistan.“It’s a disgrace that instead of doing its duty, the government is demoralising he security forces and indirectly strengthening the hands of the ISI,” they said.
