Cong MLAs running illegal trade: Sukhbir

Patiala

Ten days after taking over the reins of the party again, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh was missing on the ground while Congress legislators were oppressing people by misusing the police machinery. The SAD cadre put up an impressive show in Patiala where it criticised the Congress on mining and liquor mafia issues.

Jalalpur denies allegations

Congress MLA Madan Lal Jalalpur said all allegations levied by SAD leaders were false. “In reality, the SAD leaders believed in the politics of FIRs. I have never intervened in the police working,” he added.
Addressing a dharna in front of the mini-secretariat here, the SAD president said never before had such a situation occurred in the state when all illegal works were being done by legislators of the ruling party. “Congress legislator Madan Lal Jalalpur even ordered the police to pick up women in Takhtupura village and later got a false case registered against 42 villagers,” he said.

Today’s event saw Sukhbir Badal and senior leader Bikram Majithia ensuring youth participation in the event with Youth Akali Dal workers turning out in good numbers to meet their leaders.

Earlier, the SAD president said Congress leaders in Chief Minister’s home district were not only running illegal gambling dens, mining and illicit liquor operations but were also taking money from drug smugglers. “All these leaders, including legislators, will be held accountable for their acts,” he added.Patiala, December 21
