Chandigarh, The Punjab Congress President, Mr Partap Singh Bajwa, today questioned the propriety of summoning of the party MLA from Fatehgarh Sahib Mr Kuljeet Singh Nagra by the Patiala Divisional Commissioner arguing that under the protocol, MLA was above the Chief Secretary.
Mr Bajwa said the action of the Parkash Singh Badal government by entrusting the inquiry into the spat between Mr Nagra and the Fatehgarh Sahib SDM Ms Pooja Syal recently over a public issue was in violation of all norms.
The PPCC chief pointed out that in such cases, the authority was vested with the Speaker of the Assembly and it was for this reason that the Congress had taken up this issue with him. This was an effort to brow beat the opposition which would not be tolerated at any cost.
He warned the Badal government against this line of action and said the party would not tolerate any such gross misconduct against the opposition MLAs.
He said the issue should be resolved at the proper forum and inquiry by the Commissioner was not the answer to this controversy. He made it clear that the Congress would not allow the ruling party to lower the dignity of the elected representatives of the people.
