Amritsar, January 3, 2023: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s statement against offering money in Golaks (offering boxes) inside Gurdwara Sahibs has hurt the sentiments of the Sangat, which has brought forward his intellectual poorness.
This was expressed by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) General Secretary Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal on Tuesday.
He said that the Congress party has always tried and conspired to break the SGPC, a religious organization of the Sikhs, while on the other hand, the leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party are also following the same footsteps and are on the way to weakening the organization financially.
He said that Bhagwant Singh Mann’s sarcastic comment regarding the Golaks of Gurdwara Sahibs does not reflect the dignity of a person holding the constitutional post of Chief Minister, hence he should apologize for it.
Bhai Grewal said that Punjab is the land of Sikh Gurus, where the Gurmat (teachings of Sikh Gurus) philosophy has given inspiration and teaching to the Sangat (community) of sharing and take out Dasvandh (10% of income) for the welfare of people.
Any devotee who pays obeisance at the Guru’s house feels happy after whatever offerings he makes. No devotee is forced to make an offering, rather it is a surrender to the Guru from his inner soul, he said.
He said the Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann’s sarcastic statement about the Sangat paying obeisance at the Guru’s house is an expression of his hateful thinking towards religion.
He said that the sentiments of the Sangat are hurt after this video of Bhagwant Singh Mann went viral and therefore, he should apologize.
He said that the Chief Minister should never forget that the works which the governments failed to do have been done by Sikh organizations with the offerings made in the Guru’s houses by Sangat.
During Covid, Sikh organisations, SGPC and the Sangat did great service of the humanity than governments. He said SGPC has also done notable works in the field of health and education.
Bhai Grewal said for the establishment of the Government Medical College (in Mastuana, Sangrur), Bhagwant Singh Mann wants to use the property of Gurdwara, for which, he has given this controversial statement.
He questioned whether can Bhagwant Singh Mann answer that without the support of Sangat, what will be the source of langar, necessary services and public welfare work in Gurdwara Sahibs? Bhai Grewal advised Punjab CM not to interfere in Sikh matters, as he had no Sikh concerns inside him.
