Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, In a step aimed at imparting quality coaching of Medical and Engineering fields to the students of government schools in villages at their doorsteps, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today gave nod for starting ‘Online tutorials’ for these courses in the rural government schools of the state.
A decision to this effect was taken by the Chief Minister while presiding over a high level meeting to review the Edusat program here at CMO, this morning.
Taking part in deliberations, the Chief Minister underscored the need for bridging the widening gap between the rural and urban sectors especially in the field of professional education. He said that the need of the hour was to evolve a mechanism so that the brilliant students from the villages could compete with their convent educated pears from the cities. Mr. Badal said that ultra modern technology must be utilised in an apt manner so as to reach a large number of students besides providing the access of quality professional education to them even in the remotest part of the state.
The Chief Minister, while giving green signal to the ambitious project to provide ‘Online Tutorials’ in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology after matric, said that it would act as a game changer for the rural students who aspire to scale new heights in the field of engineering and medical science. He said that though the urban students were having a number of opportunities to get coaching in the cities but the students from rural background were not able to perform upto the mark due to lack of professional coaching. Moreover, Mr. Badal said that private players were minting money through such tutorials whereas this online program of the state government aims to impart quality professional training the rural students at a very nominal cost. He said that these interactive courses would be firstly started in 100 schools of the state, to be later extended to other schools.
During the meeting the Chief Minister was apprised that for 100 schools this project would entail an expenditure of Rs 4.5 crore in which the students would be provided course materials through these tutorials. The course would include contact sessions, query resolution and archives section for the ensuring the better performance of the students. Likewise, class co-ordinators would also be deployed for streamlining this project.
It was also informed in the meeting that while the Edusat was currently imparting quality education to the school students across the state during the school hours but for these courses the education would be imparted to the students after the school hours. It was also apprised that apart from the Medical and Engineering fields the students would also be provided education for appearing in IELTS and TOEFL, as per their desire.
Prominent amongst others present in the meeting included Cabinet Minister Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Principal Secretary Finance Mrs. Vinnie Mahajan, Principal Secretary School Education Mr. C Roul, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Ajoy Kumar Sharma and Director General School Education (DGSE) Mr. GK Singh.
