Cm Badal asks rice exporters to adopt villages

Chandigarh, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today asked the Punjab Rice Exporters Association (PREA) to adopt clusters of 8-10 villages for production of quality seed of basmati varieties like 1501, 421. He also asked them to initiate efforts for the revival of traditional basmati variety 386, which is known for its aroma and taste worldwide.

The CM told association members, who called on him in his office, that he would take up with the Union Ministry of Commerce the issue of recognition of 1121 variety of basmati in Europe. It has not been so far approved as an export variety in the European market.

He also assured association members that the issue of entry tax on basmati varieties of PUSA and Sugandha purchased from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other states would be thoroughly examined.
