Capt raps Valtoha for terror remark, BJP for double-speak

Chandigarh, Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha and former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today condemned a statement in Punjab Vidhan Sabha by Akali legislator Virsa Singh Valtoha whereby he allegedly tried to glorify terrorism by claiming himself to be a terrorist .“You better be proud of something better, if you really have anything to feel proud of,” the Congress leader told the Akali MLA in a statement released here.Capt Amarinder said Valtoha should have been expelled from the House, or at least reprimanded, as such “provocative statements could vitiate the hard-earned peace in the state and create fear among people. “Better nip this evil in the bud lest it vitiates and poisons the whole atmosphere,” he warned Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. He also regretted that Badal “tried to shield Valtoha”. The former Chief Minister also criticised the BJP for its “double-standards for saying one thing in public and doing quite contrary inside Vidhan Sabha”.“The Akalis are known to patronise drug trade and trafficking. Some of their leaders are more of peddlers than public representatives. But the BJP too has exposed itself by siding with the Akali Dal despite taking a high moral ground in public on the drug issue,” he observed. He alleged that the Akali Dal and BJP were partners in sins of omission and commission during the last eight years and there was no escape for the party (BJP) now.“The BJP is desperately trying to wriggle out of the situation, but at the same time it does not want to give up power,” he pointed out.
